J. H. Stauffenberg

                                                         Winfield, Kansas.
Winfield 1880: J. H. Stauffenberg, 33; spouse, Louise, 24.
Not sure of items in Winfield Directory 1880...
First item shows Stauffenberg was between 8th and 9th Avenues on Main Street.
Later he is shown as being between 10th and 11th Avenues.
According to Directory he had just opened an establishment next door to Harter’s Drug Store.

J. H. STAUFFENBERG. Merchant Tailor.
This gentleman has recently opened a first-class tailoring establishment on Main street next door to Harter’s Drug Store.
Mr. Stauffenberg thoroughly understands his business, having been for a number of years connected with some of the leading merchant tailors in the country. He has also fine taste and judgment in selecting what will best suit his patrons. His work is first-class, and his goods of the best material.
All of the latest styles are received by him regularly, from which you can select.
[In 1880 Harter’s Drug Store was located on Main Street and the northeast corner of Ninth Avenue. It appears that Stauffenberg located next to the drug store north of it on the east side of Main Street. However, you will note discrepancies below.]

AD. J. H. STAUFFENBERG, MERCHANT TAILOR, MAIN STREET, WINFIELD, KANSAS. Keeps on hand a first class line of Worsteds, Cassimeres, and Fine Diagonals. Mr. Stauffenberg is an artist in his line, has had years of experience in some of the largest merchant tailor establishments in the country, and guarantees satisfaction. ROOM NEXT TO HARTER BROS. DRUG STORE.
The above items published by the Winfield Courier on May 6, 1880, and items that appeared in the 1880 Winfield Directory about Stauffenberg are all that can be found on this tailor. Weird!
