Harader Family

                                                         Christian Harader.
July 4, 1903, from Topeka Mail and Breeze
Christian Harader, Rural Route no. 3, Arkansas City, is 79 years old, yet accomplishes as much work as many men of 30 years. Last year, with no help from anyone, he plowed 103 acres of land, fifty acres of it twice, and planted it to wheat. The resultant harvest is now in shock, first class in quality and yield. There are plenty of younger men who have no such record as this.
Mr. Harader was born in Virginia, and moved to Iowa in the 1850s, where he built flouring mills and one of the first woolen mills in the state. In 1879 he went to Missouri, but soon after located in Cowley County, near Arkansas City, where he has, by using business methods, secured many hundreds of acres of valuable land. He began life without a dollar; today his check is good for several figures. He has always been a strong Republican and a Dunkard. He gets along without tobacco or liquor. No one is a more devoted Kansas than he.
